8th Grade

Eldorado PK–8’s 8th grade prepares students to finish middle school with confidence, curiosity, and strong academic habits in a supportive, close‑knit community. Our team teaching approach lets teachers know each student well—so we can offer targeted support, small‑group instruction or reteaches, and meaningful challenges for students ready to extend their learning before high school.
Academics
Math: Students deepen algebraic reasoning, work with linear relationships, systems, and functions, and apply problem solving to real‑world contexts. Instruction includes small‑group work, technology‑enhanced practice, and opportunities for collaborative problem solving to build fluency and readiness for high school math.
ELA: Students refine analytical reading and writing skills—engaging in close reading, text‑based discussions, and sustained writing across informative, argumentative, and narrative genres. Independent choice reading and teacher conferences support growth in comprehension, voice, and academic writing.
Science: The focus is earth science, emphasizing science and engineering practices, data‑driven investigations, and real‑world problem solving. Students complete inquiry labs and projects that develop modeling, analysis, and evidence‑based reasoning.
Social Studies: Students study U.S. history with a strong emphasis on primary‑source research, document‑based questions (DBQs), and evidence‑based writing. Units ask students to analyze continuity and change, evaluate multiple perspectives, and construct reasoned arguments about historical events through hands‑on projects, simulations, and sustained research.
