Language Arts

Eldorado PK–8’s ELA program develops strong readers, writers, and thinkers through purposeful, standards‑aligned instruction and authentic learning experiences that move students from close reading and text‑based discussion to sophisticated analysis.

Writing instruction—informative, argumentative, and narrative—emphasizes organization, evidence, and clear expression, while independent choice reading and regular teacher conferences foster fluency, comprehension, and individual voice.

Because our students demonstrate high achievement and growth, we can challenge them to dig deeper using a range of discussion models and collaborative structures. Hands‑on, creative activities such as mystery podcast production, structured debate, multi‑genre research projects, read‑alouds and literature circles, independent reading conferences, and film and theater analysis provide meaningful audiences and opportunities to apply skills critically and expressively.

Grade Level Pathways

6th Grade: Students focus on building analytical habits through close reading, evidence‑based discussion, and writing across genres. Project-based learning and community events — such as the annual Food Truck Festival — provide authentic audiences for student work. Coming up: Students will practice persuasion and marketing by designing Gingerbread Houses and writing real‑estate style listings.

7th Grade: Students deepen critical reading and reasoning with sustained text analysis, document‑based tasks, and structured debate. Multi‑genre research, independent reading with conferences, and novel study expand students’ ability to synthesize evidence and craft persuasive, well‑organized writing.

8th Grade: Students refine advanced analytical and academic writing through close reading, media analysis (film/theater), synthesis of multiple sources, and sustained argumentative work. Capstone opportunities — polished multi‑genre research projects and media productions like podcasts or performances — prepare students for high school.
