Science

Eldorado PK–8’s science program engages students in phenomenon-based learning aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Students don’t just observe science—they investigate it. Each unit begins with a real-world phenomenon, and students work to explain it through hands-on labs, data collection, building models, and collaborative problem-solving. They are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas, revise their thinking, and support their explanations with evidence rather than memorizing isolated facts.
Field studies and experiential learning are a core part of our program. Students extend classroom learning into the real world through trips to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, the Denver Zoo, Botanic Gardens, NCAR, NOAA, Flatirons hikes, prairie dog habitat studies, and even physics on roller skates—making science meaningful and memorable.
Grade Level Pathways
Each grade follows a purposeful pathway:
6th Grade: Physical Science: Students explore forces, energy, and the properties of matter through engaging lab investigations and introductory chemistry and physics.
7th Grade: Life Science: Students study structure, function, and systems in living organisms, including three dissections that deepen understanding of anatomy and adaptation.
8th Grade: Earth & Space Science: Students investigate Earth’s systems, natural resources, and human impact while applying engineering practices to solve real-world problems.
Curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving are at the heart of every unit.
