Family and Consumer Science

Eldorado PK-8’s Family and Consumer Sciences program helps our middle school students build real‑world skills through hands‑on learning and practical problem solving. Our two signature classes — Food Facts and Fun and CASH — give learners tools for healthy, confident, and responsible living.

Both classes emphasize collaboration, responsibility, and real‑world application — building independence and lifelong habits that extend beyond the classroom.

Our Courses

Food Facts and Fun introduces food safety, kitchen basics, respectful table conversation, recipe reading, and hands‑on cooking. Students sample flavors from other cultures, practice teamwork while creating menus, and design a student‑run “restaurant” to showcase their skills in a friendly Restaurant Wars event. It’s a lively, supportive space where curiosity, creativity, and tasting new foods are all part of the learning.

CASH (financial literacy) teaches age‑appropriate money skills: budgeting, saving, making thoughtful choices, and understanding how everyday financial decisions affect life goals. Students put lessons into practice by running the SOAR Store, managing inventory, setting prices, and handling transactions for their school community. These real‑world responsibilities build confidence, teamwork, and practical money sense.
